A car air conditioning system is in operation for the majority of the year these days and provides real relief, especially on hot days. However, harmful bacteria, pollen, invisible germs, and fungi can settle on the air conditioner's evaporator and in the pollen filter box in a very short time, affecting your health with every car journey – respiratory diseases and allergies can be triggered. In addition, these impurities can lead to a smelly air conditioning system.

For this reason, the VDI (Association of German Engineers) and the ZDK (Central Association of the German Motor Trade) recommend in the Directive 6032 the professional cleaning of the air conditioning evaporator and the pollen filter box with every pollen filter change – at least every 12 months.

The VDI (Association of German Engineers) and the ZDK (Central Association of the German Motor Trade) advocate for the regular cleaning of the air conditioning system in cars. The VDI/ZDK Guideline 6032 Sheet 2 "Air technology; Air quality in vehicles; Hygiene requirements for ventilation technology; Passenger cars/trucks" recommends regular and proper cleaning of the air conditioning system and replacement of the pollen filter to improve air quality in the car and minimize health risks.

It is recommended to replace the pollen filter at least once a year and to have the entire air conditioning system professionally cleaned. For individuals with allergies or other health restrictions, the cleaning should even be done more frequently.

During air conditioning cleaning, disinfection is often mentioned. However, disinfecting the air conditioner is not recommended for your vehicle or for you.

Firstly, the disinfectant can attack the components of the air conditioning system, potentially leading to long-term damage to the air conditioner – moreover, disinfectant in the air conditioner's evaporator can be potentially dangerous. The air conditioner evaporator is an important part of the system that cools and dehumidifies the air. If disinfectant gets into the evaporator, it can disperse into the air and be inhaled by the occupants of the vehicle. Direct inhalation of the high alcohol content can lead to respiratory problems and other health issues.

Click cans do not clean the car air conditioning either chemically or mechanically and are therefore not a sustainable solution for contamination and bad odors in the air conditioning system. The click cans may also contain allergenic fragrances that can cause health problems for the occupants. As a result, this is not a real and sustainable solution for cleaning the car air conditioning and eliminating unpleasant odors.
